Because its a lot easier to make a bunch of square cardboard boxes than round cardboard boxes. The real question is, if the boxes are square, why arent the pizzas made square to fit?

Hey Alan,
As you have already surmised, the reason is cost and how to make a round box.
But I would love to answer Tim and Plethebest's question.
Why No Square Pizza's?
That's almost as simple. While we have square pizza's now they are pressed pizza's made with a dough very similar to bread dough. True pizza dough is made with less water and less yeast. So when you stretch out the pizza dough, the yeast and gluten's try to maintain their rounded shape. It's too hard to make the dough into a square shape.
That's why no true square pizza's

Maybe the question should be why are pizzas round if boxes are square.

So that we can get the pizza out without having 2 stuggle! It's easier to get pizza out of a square box coz there is space in the corners where u can stick ur fingers in!!!!!!!!1

Maybe its coz square boxes are easier and cheaper to make. Or maybe its to give the pizza space to bounce around when its being delivered!
Plus nowadays you can get square pizzas too.

coz this way u got some gap around the corners which makes it easy to take the pizza..... if they make round boxes a lil bigger than the pizza for the same reason then the pizza will get spoiled as there is nothing to hold it tite

Hi alan.
thats a great question! i believe the simple answer is Ergonomics. a.k.a-PACKING. manufacturers wanna cut down costs like for transport. so they deliver as mush as possible in one van, so packing in squares is the best way to do this, saves space,therefore money. also, making square boxes is far easier than round ones. now, im hungry!!!

Round boxes take up too much effort to manufacture, not to mentions costs as well
