something supernatural

Put simply, it's the "spirit" or "soul" of a deceased person that, for some unexplained reason, can still be seen by some people. There's some debate about whether or not ghosts actually exist, but I don't have much doubt myself. There have been so many reportings of them throughout human history, and every year there are new reports of strange phenomena experienced by ordinary people who don't have any ulterior motive, and weren't drunk or hallucinating or half-asleep or anything like that.

Not to turn this into too long an answer, but one of the accepted ideas (among people who believe in the paranormal, anyway) is that "ghosts" are people who are confused about their deaths and don't want to leave for whatever reason. That's why they stick around here, and that's why some people can see them at certain times. They haven't "crossed over" to whatever lies after death; they still have unresolved problems that they don't want to leave behind.

With all of the above said, though, there's not really much hard scientific proof that ghosts exist, but if you consider pictures, historical evidence, and countless testimonials as proof, then there may be something to the whole thing.

A ghost is an alleged non-corporeal manifestation of a dead person (or, sometimes, an animal or a vehicle). It is often claimed to be a manifestation of the spirit or soul of a person which has remained on Earth after death.

According to some beliefs, a ghost may be the personality of a person after his or her death, and not directly tied to the soul or spirit. Every culture in the world carries stories about ghosts, though they often disagree as to what ghosts are and whether they are just figments of imagination or a part of reality. There is much debate on whether ghosts are spirits of deceased people or a naturally occuring phenomenon. Some people believe that ghostly images and sounds occur as a result of the natural environment "playing back" past events in a manner similar to that of a tape recorder.

Ghost, nonmaterial embodiment or essence of an organism, especially of a human being. The term is sometimes used virtually as a synonym for soul or spirit, and in the Christian religion, in the form of the Holy Ghost (now, more often, Holy Spirit), it has a specialized meaning. More frequently, however, the term ghost is applied to an apparition, usually of a dead person, that varies in apparent solidity from a mere foglike mass to a perfect replica of the person. A wraith, in contrast, is the visible spirit of someone still alive. A doppelgänger is a special form of wraith that makes its appearance at a time when the physical body of the subject is observed at some distant place.

In many religions, and particularly in primitive faiths, the belief exists that the spirit wanders away from the body during periods of unconsciousness such as sleep. Such religions also teach that after death the spirit lingers near the body of the dead person. A common practice of groups holding such beliefs is to propitiate the ghosts of the dead by offerings of food, clothing, and other objects that the ghosts may find useful in the spirit world. In many primitive civilizations the personal possessions of a dead man, including his weapons, his pets, and sometimes even his wife, are buried or burned with his body. The practice of ancestor worship, as well as the mourning rites of many modern civilizations, probably originated in the belief in ghosts.

A ghost is something that everyone afraid of but never actually see one. For me,I believe ghost really exist and you might see them if you have a faint heart. But the question is,do you really want to see a ghost....beside ghost....there are many things else such as angels,devils..but there are no vampires now days. A ghost also can be defined as something that is meant to hurt people, people's feelings, people's faith upon their God...and to bring chaos into this world..we all should know that evil being but not humans will go to hell forever such as ghost or devil.

there is no such a thing as a ghost, most people believe it is the spirit of the dead but the bible says
Ecclesiastes, chapter 9
5: For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward; but the memory of them is lost.

so in my opinion a ghost is a demon taking on the form of a departed person
