Independence day, along with all other holidays which have become so corrupted with the commercial nature they have come to take on, are not valued for what they are. This day is better known as the fourth of July, or when we waste millions of dollars which could be used to feed a third world country, or even those in our towns afflicted by poverty, on fireworks. Perhaps it will take an event which strips us of our independence to make us realize what that day really means, and the significance it still bears today.

Indian and Pakistani independence days have a significance for being anti colonial and subjugation of a set of human beings by others. It inspires those who continue to be under occupation to fight for their freedom.

Unfortunately due to divide and rule policy and the greed of a certain opulent class, the subcontinent got divided so these days are also of mourning...

We must reinvigorate our spirit to fight neo-colonialism to ensure our freedoms are not tampered with in future... We must also liberate and give due rights to people who do not identify with either of the present two nations. This can be done by either stopping oppression and creating new political dispensations or just setting them free.
