Arriving 16th Dec, Staying in Saigon for 5 days. Will do day trips in this area. Any info on what to see appreciated. Flying to Danang and then will make our way back to Saigon. What is the best way to travel back as we want to see some of the country so would prefer to drive. Is the possible. Then into the Mekong, a few days on Phu Quoc Island. Then into Cambodia to Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. Have we got enough time to do all this? What is the best way to achieve what we want to do. We were going to go to Hanoi but read the weather was a bit cool there in Dec. Is the weather alright every where else. All help greatly appreciated.

Five days is not enough time for a good experience in Vietnam. Saigon itself can be 5 days worth of excitement. Perhaps the most popular day trip from Saigon is Cu Chi (the tunnels). Personally, I thought Cu Chi was a waste of time after visiting it. A lesser known and better experience is Can Gio.

Can Gio has a monkey sancturary, where you can hand feed the monkeys and walk with them. There is a crocodile sancturary there too. You can tell which monkey got too close to the corcs because they're missing a hand or a leg. You can take a boat trip through the mangrove jungles to a jungle VC camp that is a much better experience than the Cu Chi tunnels.

If you have only five days in Vietnam, then you have no choice but to fly to Da Nang. Next time, consider a longer stay and take the train or a bus there. It will take about half a day, and you can see some beautiful country along the way.

The native Viets think Hanoi is freezing cold in December. It is more like Orange County weather though. It will get cool, but it's not really that bad. I wore shorts, polo shirt and sandals when the natives were bundled up like it's going to snow.

Have a great trip!

You can drive yourselves in Vietnam. You need hire a car with driver. You make a journey by road from Saigon to Dalat, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, Hoi An, Hue and then fly back to Saigon. 20 days is quite enought for this including Cambodia and some days relax on Phu Quoc.
