I have read the answers before answering your question.

Since, I have read the answers, it seems to me to be quite true that you cannot generalize about what women as a group like.

Also, I think that it's possible that taste changes with age. Perhaps a young woman will like a different kind of film than an older woman. Perhaps a woman from one ethnic, religious, racial group will have certain interests, identifications, etc.

All of the above, of course, goes for men too.

Now having said all this, I will just say what I like.

The most important thing for me in a movie is a good, interesting story. It can be funny, dramatic, romantic, slice of life, fantasy, off-beat, anything as long as it is not formulaic, predictable, boring.

I do dislike movies that have as their focus violence, action, special effects without a really good story. I mean that I prefer movies in which the characters and dialogue are the most important thing rather than all the production noise surrounding them.

It's a well documented fact that generally speaking, women prefer films that focus more on consequences rather than the actual actions; in essence they are more concerned on how characters are in the aftermath, where male audiences are happy watching the huge explosion.

That's the reason why soap operas are so popular with female audience.

It's a generalisation - we're not all the same, so there are obviously exceptions - but men prefer the action/adventure genre and women often like romantic comedy and drama.

Women are naturally soft and romantic in nature. Due to their nature, they love movies that are cool especially love stories i.e. romantic films, movies with meaning and mostly with happy ending. Few women may like action (thrillers) films with gunshot and all but all women love romantic movies.
