006 got it partly right. It's not the leading reserve currency, it is the world's reserve currency. In terms of exchange rates, the pound is much stronger than the dollar (trading at almost 2 dollars for 1 pound). Popularity is the USD because it is the world's reserve currency, but stability is the Pound Sterling.

I would have to say USD. It's still the world's leading reserve currency and US T-bills are still considered the most liquid and safe securities in the world.

For strength and stability you can not beat the Swiss Franc. It is backed 100% by gold instead of IOU's like other currencies. I'll take gold bullion over any kind of paper any day.
