Anime (アニメ, Anime?), which is short for アニメーション (animēshon) from the English word "animation", in the western world most popularly refers to the medium of animation originating in Japan, with distinctive character and background aesthetics that visually set it apart from other forms of animation (e.g. Walt Disney films, Warner Bros. short cartoons). In Japan, the word anime is used to refer to all forms of animated film from around the world. While some anime is entirely hand-drawn, computer assisted animation techniques are, in recent years, quite common. Storylines are typically fictional; examples of anime representing most major genres of fiction exist. Anime is broadcast on television, distributed on media such as DVD and VHS, or included in computer and video games.

Manga (漫画, Manga?) is the Japanese word for comics and print cartoons. Outside of Japan, it usually refers specifically to Japanese comics. As of 2006, manga represents a $5 billion global market.[1] Manga developed from a mixture of ukiyo-e and foreign styles of drawing, and took its current form shortly after World War II. It comes mainly in black and white, except for the covers and sometimes the first few pages, and in some Animanga all the pages are colored. Popular manga are often adapted into anime (Japanese for animation) once a market interest has been established. (Manga is sometimes mistakenly called "anime" even when not animated.)

Anime is short for animation and came from books by manga. Anime can be computer assisted or hand drawn whereas manga is only handrawn. Also, manga doesn't move and is similar to comics except the order of reading is different. Manga books are only black and white but anime is colourful and appealing with actors/actresse's voices playing as the character. Anime also has sound effects and is almost like all cartoon shows apart from the drawing technique.

Anime are the movies and series you can watch. Mostly based on the Manga.

Manga are little japanese comic books (can be translated). You must read it the other way around than you read a normal book. The instructions are always on the last page (first page in our reading manner).

Mostly Anime is preffered because it moves, you can see everything, you can hear everything, see the battles, see the reactions sometimes somewhat better.

Yet now I started to read the manga's of Fruits Basket after I saw the anime, I saw that there were more things in the manga then that are shown in the anime. It contains more information, and when used to read them, it is easy to follow the story.
