Agree with Sarah but need to tell you that in the republic of Ireland ... The pub trade is now suffering because of the ban! Many pubs are put up for sale/to let because the ban means that too many people now keep away, prefer to get their drink from the supermarket/off licence and drink at home where they can smoke. A couple of landlords compained to us that their traede, usually roaring before the ban has now gone down to a great extent!

Smoking was banned in NZ 2 years ago and it has made no difference to the pub or restaurant trade as these places have sheltered areas outside for smokers. It's great not having to breathe in smoke while having a meal!

I know you asked for European, but Canada banned smoking in public places too.

Smoking in most public places (except of designated areas) is also prohibited in Norway and Italy. I think the UK is about to pass a similar legislation.
