well i think , both d countries should celebrate the independence day on 15th aug. as mr.tahir told that britishers handed over the the power 2 jinnah on 14th aug. i.e pak celebrate it on 14th is absolutely wrong logic, bcoz till 14 th of aug. jinnah was indian which means britishers handed over d power 2 an indian. secondly tahir said that britishers left pak first and than rest of india. how can u distinguish b/w wat is pak and wat is india till that time. everything was india till that very moment.
infact both countries got independence on 14th aug. and both hosted thier flags for the first time on 15th of aug. so either 14th or 15th should b celebrated as a combined independence day of both d countries.

Some people condole themselves by saying something ugly about some group...thats because they don't have it in themselves to face the opponents. Anyway...back to the question...I guess...when they signed the declaration of independence...there might have been some kind of time zone difference...as the independence was given sometime in midnight. So considering the half hour difference...Pakistan would be in 14th August and India in 15th August...when the powers where transferred.

you would probably have to closely examine all the legal paperwork to get a good sense of what people were thinking about the different dates at the time.
