Just to make themselves look good, but it's very sad. If they're around a lot of people and they take a call and rush out like it's important then they attract attention to themselves.....if you know someone who does it, try get their number and ring them next time they do it! I promise you, they'll never do it again after that lol.

Lack of confidence or just to pretend they have a friend at the other end who they are able to talk to, its a big lonely world out there for a lot of people and some of them will do anything to show they do have a friend, its sad that people think they have to do that, but if just one person did talk to them maybe they wouldn't have to talk to that none existence person on their mobile.

I must admit to doing this walking home late one night and being followed by a guy,in retrospect this was really stupid but for some reason at the time it made me feel safe.
Walked home in a non direct way and lucky for me the person stopped following.
Have never done it otherwise as I hate mobile phones.

most people pretend to talk on mobiles because:
+ They want to impress the opposite sex
+ They want to show everyone they have a social life.
+ They may also want to show off their new phone.
+ The other person on the opposite line may have hung up on them so they pretend to carry on talking.
+ They could be just mad!

When I spoke on my old phone and a text came through it would make a noise. So maybe she wasn't pretending.
But if she was maybe she was insecure or feeling scared and pretending to talk on her phone comforted her so she thought the probability of being attacked was minimised.

How pathetic! I've never done that but i suppose it's to make them feel cool. I guess she has no friends and wants to appear like she does - maybe there was someone she fancied on that tube.
Don't you just love it when someone does that and the phone rings?!

It could be any one of a number of reasons. Unless we know that person well we will never understand.
Whether it's attention grabbing, or loneliness or trying to feel safe , I feel a little sorry for her. We all need a friend.
