Depends on what you mean by risky.
if (risky = viruses)
yes, for programs, movies
no, for music, images
watch for recurring SMALL file sizes (if it should be + 10 Megs, and youre finding entries for < 877.7 KB, its a trojan, dont download).
if (risky = RIAA/Legal troubles)
stop filesharing entirely. Theres no evidence that any one p2p networking program is any safer than another. Use ip masking precautions, dont download to the computer that youre going to use said files on, etc...

Ehh....pretty risky. It's loaded with crap nowadays. I used to have it on my laptop and I'm on my 3rd hard drive (it's not even two years old yet). Since I got the 3rd on installed, I haven't put Limewire on and this is the longest I've lasted on a single hd. I would just say...don't risk it. As far as getting caught, I think the chances are slim.

Limewire can leak viruses into your computer if you download things like programs and movies and zip files but other then that i've found it to be the most trusted P2P around Ares is a very very bad p2p its been known to have the most viruses around

YEH u bet it is!!!
There are diffrent kind of risks then..
1) The stuff that u download: Look out for too many files with the same file size.. they r virus (thumb rule), also u have to use a lotta common sense and gut feel b4 clickin on any file to download
2) The kind of Security software you use: It is advisable to have updated and a GOOD* Antivirus and preferably also a firewall installed. Chk out www.toptenreviews.com, and look up for Antivirus revies to chk software which protects P2P file shring.
3) How lucky u r ;)

it is not risky if you use two or three good virus detectors to clean here are mine pconpoint (that is pc on point written as one word )---adaware and last of all--- spybot---- search and destoy. I use them everyday after I go offline
and that is the other thing you must go offline to stop people getting in while you are not working. Still b e very careful. people are horrible sometimes Oh and stay away from the adult materia-----that is totally infected!!!!! and be careful of th e programmes. most of them do not work.

yes, it can be due to the viruses other computer users have. just downloading can cause you to gain viruses, i suggest you to just use ares. even though it sucks as hell. but at least it's not as risky as limewire. <3 hope that helped.

Sure it is! I wouldn't touch P2P file-sharing with a barge-pole. Viruses, malware, Trojans, spyware, adware, worms and typically destructive software is not uncommon on file-sharing networks. If oud do download something though, try it on a useless PC, then scan it. If it's safe, transfer it to the PC you want to play it on...

To make it safer..........go to tools, then options, select sharing on the left, deselect (remove) the shared folders and the shared extensions.
And do as another user suggested......keep your protection up to date!
