I watch Dr. Who on Sunday night. I still remember when William Hartnell played the part in the 1960's. But the program with actor Christopher Eccleston is the best and highest rated.

Oh, this one's going to be a bity of a crapshoot, because everyone has their favourite Doctor, and I have several and no clear favourite.
The first Doctor I saw was Jon Pertwee, may he rest in peace, followed by Tom Baker. Peter and Colin didn't make so much of an impact with me, but Sylvester McCoy would have been spectacular - if his stories hadn't been so utterly dump.
And then, after Paul McGann's abortive single outing, came Chris and then David.
Damn. What can I say? Chris Eccleston's performance knocked spots off the other Doctors, possibly with one exception; and David Tennant's Doctor stood on Chris's shoulders.
In both cases, Billie Piper's Rose Tyler, and her extended family of recurring characters of Jackie, Pete and Mickey, were the foundation for two of the solidest performances of The Doctor I have seen for many a long year.
Each Doctor has had their day, and at least one episode where they stood out and had their finest moment - even Colin Baker - but I'd say that, at present, four Doctors are vying for the title of "best Doctor" in my heart, namely the late Jon, Tom, Chris and David.

They were ALL amazing in their time, and the next regeneration always lived up to expectations.
But I did get bored after a while with Jon Pertwee. The BBC couldn't afford to do the Tardis' special effects, and he became known as the 'Earthbound-Doctor.'
It dwindled for me in the 80's with the exception
of Tom Baker, the subsequent doctors seemed insipid.
Fantastic that it's brought back and bang up to date. Christopher Eccleston was superb, though I wish he'd continued. David Tennant has steadily grown on me, and does justice to the role.
Can't wait for the new series....

i think the best actor so far in doctor who has to be Christopher Eccleston, because he did a great job and had a hell of a lot of pressure on him to live up to the fans perception of what the Doctor means to them and personally i think he delivered this extremely well, considering also if i remember correctly the first couple of stories were written with no actual actor cast for this role.
His on screen relationship with Billie Piper worked wonderfully, and you could believe in them both, which is not always obvious in previous Doctor's and companions
The only downside was that he left after that one series and i think giving time his character would have developed into something that far exceeds his previous incarnations.

David Tennant as Doctor Who. He is good at serious acting such as demonstrated by Tooth and Claw and The Age of Steel. New New York first episode which showed of his talents when he acted as Cassandra who was possessing his body, a man acting as a girl in a man's body is hard to pull of without becoming comical but he did it spot on.

If its based on past Drs then I would say Tom Baker as he is so drole and deadpan in the face of danger.
If its on the new series than David Tennent does it for me because he is just so quirky - and fab in HP Goblet of Fire too!

Tom Baker, definitely. He was quirky-looking, with the scarfs and mop of hair, and also has a great accent and voice. Easily the most distinctive Doctor.

Tom Baker was the one who became the best known in the roll, and was the longest running Dr.
