Depends on where you live.
I live in an area where the terrain is hilly and the closest cell tower is by the interstate. From the experiences of people who visit my area, between the two carriers, VZW is the better one in terms of coverage and quality. And while I'm not crazy about the plans or their customer service, I like the idea that I can get phone calls in the middle of Yellowstone National Park while no one else's can.
I have relatives who live in the city and simply love T-Mobile, for reasons other than coverage (service plans, international compatibility). So that works for them.

Verizon. They have more coverage, plus they are based on CDMA which is more advanced than TDMA, which is what T-Mobile uses.
