Well it was stupid and offensive, but I think it should be remembered most Aussies often say things as a bit of a facetious or bantering way which in stricter cultures could be deemed offensive. Australians take the p*ss, and that sometimes even borders on disrepect but often it isn't intended that way. When Aussies do this amongst each other, they understand that it wasn't intended as offensive, but often forget that other cultures can interpret such things in completely different ways when they are outside of Australia.
I am quite sure he didn't mean to offend, and just thought of it as a joke, but in an international arena, particularly whilst working for a multi-national media organisation, and within earshot of microphones, it was definately stupid and irresponsible.

I believe it show's the Aussie Culture.
The Aussie commentator's are always suggesting that the Quotta System in South africa during Cricket and Rugby matches is good yet how many players of colour do they have in their teams.
The Best player should play and that is why Dean Jones said what he did
Everything in life happens for a reason and it is good to see that the true colours in people will always show.

4th test match Srilanka vs S-Africa after tea break he called amla a terrorist ya it was bad his intentions were to degrade moslims and as a prove for this is that after this all mess Allan Border said that his (Amla's) own team mates call him a terrorist during their meetings but s-africa's coach and captain said that its not true we respect each player and their relegion.anyway icc is taking actions against jones even though he said sorry to amla for this but ICC will punish him for sure he has already been kicked off from the job of commentators so it shows that u should think alot before speaking .its not the first time that an australian has done something like this Lehman who is now retired from cricket said that srilankans are black ppl so they souldnt play cricket and the aussies captain ponting said that bangladesh is such a bad team so they should play against some weak teams before facing us but bangladesh beat australia by 3 wickets or less wickets and suprise the world so the aussies are rude and they are lossing manners

When he took the catch of Sangakarra, I think he was just joking, he's probably the best non-bully Aussie.

I FIND NO INTENTIONS IN THAT.
ITS JUST A SLIP.
BUT THE PENALTY GIVEN IS A STRONG, ESSENTIAL CAUTION TO ALL COMMENTATORS FOR THEIR TONGUE CONTROL IN FUTURE.
