my computer will not boot up I tried several ideas from a previous question use F8 well I did now the best I can get is something that looks like a piece of patchwork material???? Is this an indication that my graphics card is the problem.I think maybe when I get up & running again I will dispose of google earth.

get a nice person to download and burn a copy of a live linux CD for you and see if it just isn't your hard drive or operating system. this requires your friend to have a CD burner and hopefully a broadband connection.

then use linux. or at least give it a try. a live CD runs straight from your CD-rom and does not need to be installed.

P.S. Ubuntu works with almost all hardware right out of the "box"

Could also be a boot sector problem. If the computer seems as though it goes through all the same motions, i.e., beeps and harddrive hum and HDD light flashing then it MAY just be your graphics card. It's doubtful that Google Earth would damage your card. If the card wasn't up to the task then it would just run Earth a bit glitchy or not at all.

tell me exactly what you did before it malfunctioned, things like wot u downloaded, installations hardware config's, software config's and routine maintenance.
