You say it looks like a piece of patchwork material. It by this you mean it has fuzzy squre colours that seem to slide left and right, it could be that the drivers for the video card have been reset to use too high a screen resolution. The answer to that would be to press F8 when starting to get to the Win start menu, then choose boot in VGA mode option or safe mode. Then just uninstall and reinstall the video drivers.

Start your machine using Windows Safe Mode (press F8 when booting and select Safe Mode from the menu). This should load your graphics card with basic drivers. If this still does not work then I would suggest you try another graphics card in your machine or another monitor.

Yup sounds like your Graphics card is up the shoot! Bad luck.

However...under safe mood you should be able to get around that...and just have windows install the very basic start up drivers?

Get rid of Go ogle earth asap.......to eliminate that side of things.

Do check on their website from another PC...and see what if anything you have on yours that could be doing the damage.

Hopefully you do not just have on-board graphics on your motherboard......as it may have shot that??? Fingers crossed for you that it hasn't!

If you have a separate Graphics card and your Motherboard also has on-board graphics......you might be able to swap to that from with in the PC bios......careful though....you need someone who knows what they are doing when in the BIOS.....that is NOT the place to start guessing!

If you can get to things under safe mode......try and get into Device Manager....and see what is happening with the display card there...check for any yellow exclamation marks

You might have to reinstall your software if the graphics card isn't the problem. I would try that first before the graphics card as Google Earth is a big program that some graphics can't handle. Good Luck!
