A divorce doesn't have to cost a dime. That is, if it is done amicably and without lawyers. It's laywers that cost a lot.
No matter what they paid, I'd say that divorcing that ****** Tom Cruise was the best thing Kidman ever did. It certainly helped her career, and I'm sure she made those hundreds of thousands of dollars back tenfold now that she's an oscar winner.
Then again, why do i even care?

Alot more than it cost to get married that's for sure. They paid that because they are rich and famous. Basically it depends on how easy the break goes, what all is involved with leaving, is there children, do you own a home together? Would it all be easier just to leave everything and just cut your loses now, just to end it, or to fight for what you think you want and deserve out of the marriage. Then you have lawyer fees, court costs, ect..

I urge you to get help from the court and you can get advice from legal Aid that has Pro Bo-no lawyers helping you.It depend on case by case. You can file paper by yourself and make sure you learn how to negotiate with your spouse before looking for a lawyers because, the lawyer is very expensive if she or she knows how much asset your guys have.Watch out in my opinion, the lawyers ( some ) are not honest and I do not think you two want to give your share that you both sweat to the third party.( Nicole and Tom, both make so much money so their lawyers in my opinion have their happy day. )

The more money and assets ,homes ,cars, land etc,the more litigation involved. It cost money to divide money.
more time involved for all the research and lawyers.Lawyers are paid by the hour in big money divorces. And that's costly.
I have a friend that is a Realtor and she divorced her husband and it cost her over 10,000.00 but she got it all,the businesses, the 4 rental houses ,the family home and all cash assets,so in comparison to what she gained it was only a pittance.(the guy turned out to be a pedophile and went to jail)Eight months after the divorce.
Thank goodness they didn't have any kids.

The lawyer get both parties to hate each other so that they can get a bigger paycheck. Even the poorest individual should have a pre-nep.
I use a very broad definition of lust. Lust is putting your fantasies on another that you don't Know. Love requires knowing the other.
Most meet in Lust. Because they wish the other person to be attracted to them they are on their best behavior. They feel it has gone so well they get engaged still with only "Knowing" the others best behavior & like wise only showing theirs.
After about 5 years of marriage they discover if they are in love or not. A Good pre-nep will be very complete acknowledging their goals & values in life. How they wish to face the world & what they wish to do with their life.

It's rediculous, the lawyers get most of it --
try to work out the arrangements and then draw up the paper work for $99 and have ajudge approve it ... then there's filing fees .... and even if this is the hardest time to go through, don't waste the money - just get it done.... lickety split.

Our lawyers here are $250 an hour, figure a minimum of $2,000, plus all court costs, unless contested then the loser pays.
