That's how I get schizophrenia mixed up for epilepsy.

i think it actually was derived from the word schizophrenia, although, yes, it is not even close to meaning the same thing.
i think they use it to imply someone is acting "crazy" or doing something "abnormal".

but people have been using it for a long time. it's kind of like the term spazz or spazz attack.

it seems like it would be more accurate to decribe epilepsy, or an epileptic attack, but thats not how it was coined.

go figure!

People use the terms skitzo or skitzing out when they talk about someone acting in a bizarre or strange manner. It does loosely refer to schizophrenia but if someone is truly suffering from untreated schizophrenia those terms are not used. By the way, schizophrenia is not the same thing as multiple personality disorder. They are two distinct and different disorders but often confused. Epilepsy is a brain disorder causing seizures.

It all refers to schizophrenia, a brain disease where one sees things that aren't there, hears voices, talks to people who are not there or to themselves a lot like a conversation, is very paranoid like they think everyone is against them or people are following them. Any combination of all the above along with strange mood swings, aggression, etc. It is a very bad form of mental illness and some of the people with it can act like they are possessed. It can be brought on by lots of drug use and/ or it can be genetic.

Epilepsy is completely different. It is only a seisure disorder, where the person physically shakes, or falls down, it is more physical an epileptic is probably not mentally ill

It's a short term for schizophrenia, a multiple personality disorder. Epilepsy is seizures where you pass out, shake, and sometimes scream. My mom has that and it is scary to witness.

SCHIZOPHRENIA IS HAVING MULTIPLE PERSONALITIES, AND EPILEPSY IS A DISEASE THAT CAUSES UNCONTROLABLE SIEZURES. THE TERM IS USED TO SAY THAT SOMEONE JUST COMPLETELY SWITCHED THEIR MOOD ON YA OR THAT THEY ARE CRAZY.
