You'll want the software AVI2DVD, because it can convert AVI files to DVD Image files that are ready for burning.
You can get AVI2DVD Here:
http://www.trustfm.net/divx/SoftwareAvi2Dvd.html
You'll also need DVD Decrypter to burn the DVD image file.
Get DVD Decrypter here:

try getting a DiVX DVD Player like
philips dvp642 or dvp5960, u can play directly avi files instead of burning to dvd etc..
dvp5960 has a usb connection. meaning u can download movies to an external HDD and connect that to this player and play instantly.
this method is cool. (the players cost around 50-70$)
Nero is the best choice if u want to burn dvd etc..

I use Cucusoft AVI to VCD DVD Creator. This program converts the files, and burns them to a DVD so it will play in any DVD player. It works very well. I got it from download.com.

If you have Roxio version 8 you can render the video to mpeg2 (dvd format) and then burn the disc. The rendering is slow, it takes like an hour to do a 45 minute tv show, and then another 10 minutes to burn the disc.
