I tried to research this quickly and found no info. The only thing I can figure is that it is much nicer to lie in a bed that is smooth and finished being well made, as opposed to being in a bed with wrinkled, loose sheets which would feel dirty.
Just loosen them before climbing in is what I do.

Bed bugs usually hide under the mattress. Tucking the sheets in tight like that helps to prevent them from getting into your sleeping area under the sheets...just saying. Was told this by a hotel manager back in the 70's

To make the bed look neat b4 u crawl in i guess?
HEY did u know that they never wash the comforters that are on top! think about all the **** that goes down on top of that germ haven while ur snuggling up with it at nite!

because we were taught to make them that way and it looks neater! I worked at a camp last summer where they had a hotel and the sheets had to be tight and neat looking.

i pull them out and re-make my bed.
They are tight for neatness.
You could always leave a note saying not to make your bed....
