There is a rumour circulating in some fairly impressive circles that the President of Iran has chosen to respond to the US/UN incentive package and or the whole nuclear thing that he will "light a fire over Israel" on the 22 nd because it is a time when mohamad or some such muslim prophet saw one on that date.
One of the very good questions asked was why does one of the world leaders in oil production and refinement need an alternate energy source like a nuclear reactor.
Now before you say he doesn't have nukes it a moot point Russia is building on thier soil a nuclear reactor and in Dec of 05 Iran signed a 1 billion dollar arms contract with Russia wh has a direct pipeline from Iran to Russia (oil) and that they seem to be getting along with Pakistan just fine and the US has sanctioned Pakistan companies for helping them with thier nuclear progam.
Any way the rumour ? Bunk crap can't happen or yes might could will ?f yes they have to get the missle over Iraq or smuggle it in

It is possible that Aug 22ND could be the day. But do you know what would happen on Aug 23rd? Iran will be nuked by Israel. To nuke Israel would be an act of stupidity, we know Israel has nukes... Do you think they wont use them in retaliation?
They will, it will be the end of Iran too.
I half agree - If Iran got a nuke off the ground or smuggled in it would be the end of Israel as in Israel the radio active parking lot - So it wouldn't be them who turned Iran into the no longer part of geography class it would be someone else The US France the UK but Israel is so small 1 2 or 3 nukes thats the end of them

We talked about this in school recently. Iran, with all their oil, really has no need for a nuclear reactor. Why do they want one? It is little known but the Shah wanted a nuclear reactor because he assumed that the oil would run out soon. Americans and Brits were helping him build one, but than the revolution happened and the Yanks and Brits stopped building it. I personally believe and hope that the Iranians are building this thing so they can use it for good and not destruction of other countries. I personally believe the August 22 thing is a rumour started by paranoids that has caught on because of the recent conflict with Hezbollah. There is no proof that Iran has nuclear weapons as of yet.

It's not a "rumor" as you put it. He said as much in front of cameras. Not to mention he has been parading around a nuclear missile (a prop? Maybe, maybe not), screaming in arabic about how he is going to nuke Israel, Europe and the US, while crowds chant over and over, "Death to America", "Death to Israel". The question is he lying or not. I think it would be a spectacularly BAD idea to assume he is just talking trash.
Look at the facts. Iran controls Hezbollah. They created it, give it 100% of its funding and most of its weapons (for God's sakes they found Iranian soldiers among the dead in Lebanon). Hezbollah was involved in no less than 4 failed terrorist attacks/related events against the US last week (the planes from Britain, the Egyptian students that went "missing", the cell phone guy and those guys they caught casing the airports). Had one of these attacks been successful, the United States would have no choice but to declare war on Iran and move our troops there from Iraq.
Then there is the whole all out attack against Israel after Iran repeatedly called for genocide against them. Israel is our ally and protected by treaty. Had they actually been invaded, we would have had no choice but to intervene.
Now, the iranians are crazy and evil, but they aren't stupid. They know the US would have invaded. So, what do they know that we don't know.

The only viable use for nuclear weapons is to deter their use on the country that holds them. To preserve the cridibility of this deterrence, any country which is nuked must respond in kind. I do not believe that Ahmadinejad is ignorant of this principle, especially since he wants Iran to join the nuclear club.
For two nulcear armed countries to go to war against each other is suicide for both countries. This is the lesson that the US and USSR learned, and what India and Pakistan are coming to realize now. Iran and Israel (or Iran and the US or any other country) are no different.

The President of Iran has publically said he will light a fire over Israel before this date. I have read this from several sources. ( Notice that 22 is double 11. ) They don't need to get a missile into Iran to shoot there, they can fund it together with Syria and shoot it from there.
This is looking eirely like things that are supposed to happen at the end of the world.

It is impossible that this is based on an Islamic tradition since the Quran clearly states that one must NEVER kill another unless in defense on their own land. Iran is a very Islamic country and would never "nuke" another.
