Wearing something constricting at night is unnecessary, you need to allow circulation.

After my mom got breast cancer my sister asked me to research the causes. She doesn't have a computer and doesn't want one. So I did it for the ladies in my life.

I learned that one of the preventable causes is underwear that fits too tight! Underwires are highly suspected to be part of the problem and push ups that are too tight as well.

A professional fitter wrote on a website that at least 60% of women who finally come to her after being uncomfortable for years are wearing improperly sized bras. Usually the number size is too large and the cup too small. That means there is not enough circulation in the breast tissue and that can cause toxins to build up which leads to cancer.

Typically a woman who visits her has a strap that creeps up in the back, the front slides down so the tissue is compressed in the cup. The number size is too large and there is no support from the band. The cups are too small because that is what women get used to as they develop.

Example, a woman came to her wearing a 36 B. After evaluating her the fitter suggested a 34 C. The customer was amazed at how much more comfortable it was. It was a bit tighter around the rib cage than what she was used to but it stayed in place and was actually more comfortable after a full days work.

Another was wearing a 38B but needed a a 36 D and the list goes on.

A professional fitter can benefit most women who think they know what they should wear, but haven't the expertise to analyze their needs.

My sister went to one and ended up buying several new items that fit better and she now sleeps wearing just a t-shirt.

Cotton is the healthiest fiber to wear that close to the skin. It breathes better than nylon, and other synthetics.

Bottom line.................... too tight is not good.

Cancer is horrible stuff...................

I noticed that not a single person here knows about the scientific study from a few years ago. It showed that wearing a bra 24 hrs a day can increase the occurence of breast cancer. I've kept it in mind and try to use only a soft, stretchy "bed bra" or none at night. I suppose the tightness of a bra can decrease circulation or have some other negative effect. I haven't heard any more about it since.

Some people believe that the wire in underwire bras is bad for you so that would be one reason to take it off. Some women sweat when they sleep so if you sleep in your bra it will get stinky from the sweat. Personally, when I get home, I can hardly wait to take my bra off because it makes my back and sometimes my breasts sore. I only wear bras because my nipples would poke through my clothes if I didn't!

It's a comfort thing, but there are bras that are made specifically for sleeping. They generally are not under wire but offer enough support to stop back pain in larger busted women.

It's not actually necessary, but I know that for me it's a lot more comfortable .... I've slept in my bra a few times and when I woke up and took it off to shower, it had gotten pushed into my skin for so long that it stuck a little, and made a bunch of impressions that itched all day.

Well , unless you sleep standing up , you don't need the support . It is much more comfortable sleeping without a bra on .

I actually heard that you need to keep at least a sports bra on because it will keep you from sagging in the long run. But as far as underwires and padded ones they say that those are so binding that it is bad for you. Just use a sports bra to sleep.

its so comfortable to sleep without one, but do place your bra somewhere near in case an emergency happens in the middle of the night.
