Are the American automobile manufacturers ever going to wake up?

After witnessing the collapse of the GMC, and large amputations of the jobs in Ford, we must learn something.

The former head of Nissan's engineering team said after the fall of GMC, "the American automobile industry failed to listen to what the consumers demand."

Sure, our flashes are being eaten off by the Japanese and other foreign autos, but I do not see any sign of getting better.

Will the perfect storm come to the U.S. automakers? Will the Americans see the major fall of the American auto industries, significantly affecting our economy and bring the nightmare? (well, we are sort of having the nightmare already...)

Will the Americans get up from the comfort zone? Or will we change after the horrible events wake us up? Or will we fall into the deep, unwakeable sleep forever?

I want to hear what you think.

American Auto makers dig their own graveyard 4 years ago. they were behind on manufacturing process. they just turn to deft ear. With the gas price this high, they still bet on big trucks without demand. What kind of leadership is that or they are just nuckle head. Their customer department is out of touch. They put customer on the back seat, that why they lost to japanese car maker on every process. they don't think about customer wallet. If they can produce a car with 50-60 mpg like japanee car. that is the time the customer may come back. They never learn a lesson from the last oil boom in the 1970. they let happening again. They dig their own graveyard. The leadership jeopardize hundred thousands of jobs

The five top selling cars in the nation so far this year are as follows:

Toyota Camry.
Toyota Corolla
Honda Accord
Honda Civic
Chevrolet Impala. (I think it's the Impala)

Toyota and Honda just offer better cars. I've never had a good experience with an American car. That's why I wouldn't buy one now. The car I have now is a 1994 Honda Accord with over 220,000 miles on it. It runs great, looks great, and get great gas mileage.

GM and Ford are still in SUV mode. That's what's sold in the past. And that's what they're making. I don't think they've noticed that gas prices have gone up.

If they want to stay in the game, they have to start making cars people will buy. People want smaller cars. They don't want to gas guzzling Lincoln Navigator or the new Ford Guzzler that gets three miles to the gallon. We may have devistated the Japanese 60 years ago, but they're avenging themselves today.

Every body long ago realized, that the days of cheap fuel were over. Except that is, for the grossly overpaid idiots at the top of in the American car industry who kept producing flashy, wallowing, gas guzzling leviathans, hardly salable in the US and completely unsalable every where else.

Outside the US, American cars are a joke. The odd ones we see on the road in Europe belong either to Arab oil sheiks on the way to the gambling casinos, or to American tourists, looking for three of our normal car spaces on which to park them.
