First treat your pets...a good bath in flea shampoo and then Advantage or Frontline. Only after they are treated do you get to work on your house. You could flea bomb your house, but some people are sensitive to the chemicals. Otherwise, do the following: most pet stores have flea-killing powder that you can sprinkle on your carpets and vacuum up, and a spray to put on your upholstered furniture, etc. Make sure to throw away the vacuum bag outside right away or the fleas will jump out (no joke!). In your bedroom, strip and wash all of your bedding in hot water, then put fine cedar shavings (like the kind you get for a hamster cage) in an old pillowcase and place between your boxspring and top mattress. It sounds weird, but cedar repels fleas and you seriously won't be able to feel it as along as it's only 1/2" thick or less. If your pets have beds inside, put some cedar shavings in the bottom of their beds as well. This whole process takes a couple of hours, but should work. We had a BAD flea infestation from our dog two weeks ago, did all of these things, and haven't had one flea since!! Good luck...

What worked for me...
Watched my cat carefully for signs of fleas, at the first signed, used one of the shampoos that bonds a flea killer to the hair for about a month and repeated the treatment each month till flea season was over.
It's important to use the kind of treatment (drops, shampoo, dip, etc) that kills fleas in all stages of it's life cycle and works for a long time. You have to do this in order to break the flea's lifecycle long enough that the existing fleas in your house die off eventually.
In the meantime, clean and vacumm all areas of your home to eliminate breeding grounds for fleas and their eggs. Finally, you can only prevent reinfestation by keeping your pets indoors and away from other animals with fleas.

well you need to get advantage for cats and dogs they are at any vets, you just go the counter and ask for it,,, you do not need to see a vet,, your dog will need it once a month since he is outside all the time,, your kitty only needs it once every 3 or 4 mos. since she is inside, as for your house you can get a bug bomb at any store, just make sure you and your kitty and dog stay out of the house for at least 6 hours, or you can get a extra tube of advantag (get it for a large dog) and put it in a shampooer and fill it with hot soapy water or just use a spray bottle and spray everything that will get rid of the fleas in your house, eme and let me know how things are going. at iadorecats1955@netscape.com

It would be best to wash your pets with shampoo that kills fleas and take them to the vet so you can get some Flea medicine like Frontline or advantage. You should also buy some bug spray like Off to spray yourself so that they wont keep biting you.

The best thing to do is set off a flea bomb, or just call a pest control guy. Wash the pets, and change all the sheets and cushion covers.
