When i quit after 7 years i started by making rules like i was aloud to have a ciggarrette, only if i was drinking socially, or if i was really, really stressed out. For me i think this helped alot because throughout the week when i had an urge, i could hold out because i knew i could have one later. Also don't throw out every ciggarrette you have, because when you have a big craving and cave- you will go and buy a whole pack and then smoke it.
Also here is the biggest thing to remember. If you can't quite smoking cold turkey, DON'T start smoking again just because you caved and had one. I can't count how many times i have heard someone say. "I was trying to quit, but then i got (drunk, stressed, desparate) and had one, so now i smoke again."
This is a long process, don't give up.

Hearing the decision to quit from you, yourself is very rewarding and could warrant a higher rate of success if you would not fall into temptation to smoke again. However, quitting does not happen overtime. It takes time-days, weeks, or perhaps even months. First of all I would suggest that you get rid of any cigarettes that is still in your possession and stay away from it. Also it is advisable to chew on something like a gum for instance to keep your mouth busy especially when you have these cravings for nicotine. Moreover, involve your family in your decision to stop smoking for they are the ones who can help you manage your problem and keep track of you whenever temptations knocks at your door. Try to keep yourself busy like focus more on your hobbies and things that you enjoy aside from smoking. By the way, have you tried nicotine patches? If no, you might wanna check on that. I hear it works. If the day would pass without you touching that cigar then you should always congratulate yourself. Good luck and hoping the best for you...

well, as you know, there are many products out ther to aid one in quitting. Depending on the years you were a smoker, i think it would be best if you first consulted with your physician. Based on your history, he/she can recommend a product (ex. patch, gum, pills) that would best suit your needs as well as a program that helps people quit. ex. smoking cessation program. these programs are designed in a way that allows a gradual process for quitting as quitting too fast may result in you wanting to take it up again. Another part of this program is a support system. You choose who you would call if you felt the urge. They actually help you past the "cravings". One last piece of this program is the rewards that you get for every day that you don't have a cigarette. This program works if you let it. Talk to you physician and good luck!

I am on day fifteen and have smoked for 17 years, it is a hard process, I am on the patch and that helps immensly, you get crazy dreams on it but you wil be able to breathe so much better. Your mood will be al little harsher so if you are already a complete **** head you might want to find spirituality at the same time. It's not easy but you smell so much better and food tastes so much better. Good luck!

self dicipline.
Think that if you have one more cigarette, you will DIE.
This will stop you from rewarding yourself with a cigarette (for example, after one week, you reward urself saying, I can have one now).
Now, everytime you usually buy a packet of cigarette, instead of buying put the money in a piggy bank and at the end of the month you will see you are rich. Money is the ultimate motivator.
If the TOTAL ban doesn't work... you may try the rewarding method of getting a cig per week abstinence. It is supposed to kill the urge slowly. But a determined person can quit any time I believe.
good luck and thanks for trying to make yourself and us a bit healthier.

When you are trying to quit, or stop a habit, you have to put something in place of it. At the times that you smoke, after eating, morning, etc. try doing something out of your normal routine. If you have a strong mind, you can do anything!! I did.

The most important thing is an act of will. Choose to do it. Do not wimp out with any "I can't" stuff. Of course you can, and you CHOOSE to do so.
