Traditional Chinese medicine is the oldest form of medicine. I practically believe MOST chinese medicinal products because they are almost always made out of natural herbs. Being an asian myself, my elders have used some forms and ways of curing simple ailments such as headaches, cramps, diarrhea, etc. Aside from their natural herbs they also have accupuncture which is also natural. Natural is the key word that makes it one of the best way to take out the ailments and toxins from our body. No toxin equals healthy body.

Here you can find a very effective natural treatment for diabetes: http://diabete-cure.gelaf.info

Diabetes can be "reversed" or go into "remission". I believe that what that is is decreasing the need to take medications. A person who has diabetes will always have it... but there are cases where a type 2 can either reduce medications or even eliminate them... but will still need to watch diet, get plenty of exercise and keep their weight down. This is called management and control. However, that does not mean that there will never be one. Research has taken huge advances and the more scientists learn about it, the higher likelihood that a cure might come about someday.
While I did recently read an article that stated gastric lap band or gastric bypass MAY be a potential cure, more research is needed and even if this one day is a cure, it would only be effective on type 2s who are obese since neither of those procedures are performed on people who are of normal weight or body mass. Stem cell transplants are still highly controversial and most likely, have a long way to go before it is approved as a diabetes cure by the FDA. Since the vast majority of diabetics are type 2 (roughly 90%), those of us who are type 1 seem to get lost in the shuffle. EMT type 1 for more years than I care to remember, use a pump. Let me add that when I mean diabetes can be controlled and managed without medication but with diet, exercise and weight control, I'm referring to type 2. This is not an option for type 1s, who must take insulin, either by injections or a pump, to survive.

Well, I would say it depends. I have used it for some minor things, but if your doctor says you need an operation or something, I would use Western medicine. I don't know if you can hear Dr Dean Edell? He likes the holistic aspects of Chinese medicine, but, as he points out, the Chinese are busy training their doctors to do Western style treatments.

Personally, I believe Chinese medicine is a good preventive and systematic treatment, but I would use Western for anything acute or severe.

I collect articles on health and wellness topics for my writing. I found this one or Chinese Medicine the other day:

Source: Garvan Institute of Medical Research

Reports of a traditional Chinese medicine having beneficial effects for people suffering from type 2 diabetes now has some scientific evidence to back up the claims. A collaboration between Chinese, Korean, and Australian scientists at Sydney's Garvan Institute, has revealed that the natural plant product berberine could be a valuable new treatment.

Berberine is found in the roots and bark of a number of plants used for medicinal purposes including wound healing and treatment of diarrhoea. It has also been documented in Chinese literature as having a glucose lowering effect when administered to people with diabetes; yet, until now, its mode of action was unknown.

Garvan scientist Dr Jiming Ye says: "Our studies in animal models of diabetes show that berberine acts in part by activating an enzyme in the muscle and liver that is involved in improving sensitivity of the tissue to insulin -- this in turn helps lower blood sugar levels. In addition, it seems berberine can help reduce body weight".

Current medicines for treating type 2 diabetes include metformin and the TZD group of drugs. However, a large number of patients cannot tolerate metformin and the TZDs can cause undesirable weight gain. Therefore, it is critical to develop new therapies to treat type 2 diabetes, which is a growing health problem.

"Berberine has been used for decades, if not centuries, with few reported side effects. Given the limitations of existing medicines we are excited to have evidence that berberine may be a helpful new treatment for type 2 diabetes; however, despite its widespread use in traditional medicine practices, it will still have to be evaluated properly following the defined clinical trials process", said Professor James, head of the Garvan's Diabetes & Obesity Research Program and co-author of the Diabetes paper.

The next step is to investigate how berberine activates the enzyme that mediates these 'insulin-sensitising' effects.
This study will be published in the August issue of 'Diabetes'. The title is: Berberine, a natural plant product, activates AMP-activated protein kinase with beneficial metabolic effects in diabetic and insulin resistant states.

TCM can do wonders for you, if that's what you need. I respond more quickly to Chinese herbs -- some people don't. It all depends on the frequency your body needs to bring it back into balance. All alternative and complimentary therapies work to manipulate energy imbalances back into balance. Not every therapy is going to work for every person. Your best bet is to find a naturopath (www.trinityschool.org) who can use kinesiology to determine which mix of vitamins, herbs, oils, or whatever, you need to regain a balanced state.
