I just think it will show them that you think they are responsible and can handle it.

absolutely NOT... i took this from the AAP Television and Family site "Alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs

Young people today are surrounded by messages that say drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes or cigars are normal activities. These messages don't say that alcohol and tobacco harm people and may lead to death. Beer and wine are some of the most advertised products on television. TV programs and commercials often show people who drink and smoke as healthy, energetic, sexy, and successful. It is up to you to teach your child the truth about the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. "

And this from the public health agency in Canada

"Clean up party leftovers: cigarette butts and leftover food, beer, wine and other drinks can be poisonous to a small child even if consumed in small quantities."

It is common practice in many countries but I would say $#*% no! The body and especially the brain is still developing at a very rapid pace - there is no way I would condone my kid risking his development for a beer buzz....

Plus, the odds of developing alcoholism are vastly less if the person does not begin drinking before legal age.

well if you know that your kid is already drinking than i think it is ok but if he has never been drunk before than no. It would be almost like a bonding experience and it would let your teen know that you can be trusted and that they can open up to you about things and you wont freak out. Just let them know that just becuse you two can have a beer together it doent give him/her the right to go out and and get totally plastered.

If they really want to drink beer they will find a way. So I'd say at home under your supervision is better than them going out and sneaking around drinking and getting into trouble.

no way- I'm a hard core drinker and I cant even remember my kids birthdays and other dates -it's either old age (30+)or from all the beer and hard liquer I use to drink. I would not let anyone drink now that I see how it has meesed me up in the past.

ok well think of it this way if your teen wants to drink they are going to do it no matter what you say...so why not let them do it with you so that you know they are safe and not out drinking and driving with friends. Also if you let your teen do this they are more likely not going to want to do it without being around you b/c they wont feel as if they are rebelling as much...

that is at least how I used to think

Well, yay. If you give a little here and there it's no problem. It takes away from that hugh mystery behind it, so they don't feel a need to sneak away to parties and get drunk, and end up doing something really stupid. So giving junior every once and a while is not so bad.

I would say it depends on how old the teen is, if he/she is only like 14 then no, if he/she is like 16 or older then yes, as long as they are with you, it might help peak the curiosity about alcohol and make them less likely to sneak behind your back and do it.

the factor is, if a neighbor (or all and sundry) observed minors on your assets eating you may and could be arrested. it extremely is unlawful. That mentioned, i think of introducing your toddlers to alcohol is in all threat a reliable concept. the full "forbidden fruit" factor is a actual draw to toddlers attempting set up identity and rebellion. My mom enable us to have sips of wine at specific dinners considering the fact that we've been very small so alcohol replaced into on no account this huge "cool" factor i could desire to flee with in secret as a teenager. despite the fact that, she replaced into an alcoholic so as that deterred me from eating (and nonetheless does) considering the fact that i understand what lies down that street and that i'm no longer involved. individually, I savour wine with dinner, yet on no account understood the draw of having smashed and throwing up for relaxing. i could think of that protecting them in a secure ecosystem could be greater helpful than them sneaking around, despite the fact that it extremely is extremely plenty a double-edged sword.
