Who usually gives the ultrasounds to the pregnant women? I'm not having mine for a few weeks yet, but I was wondering if the doctor did it, or an ultrasound tech... either way is fine... I'm asking on the next visit, but I am just curious. Thank you very much!

A sonographer does the ultrasound and provides all the appropriate information to doctor~ Whom then makes a diagnositc report that you give to your referring doctor~ :)

But sometimes~ in different settings your ob/gyn will do the u/s :)

I am an ultrasound tech. I perform the exam and take the images. For an OB u/s, I will give the mother a "guided tour" of her baby. But, the Radiologist will interpret the exam and make the reading with all the details regarding dating or abnormal findings. This written report is then sent to your referring doctor, usually within 48 hours. It is against the law for a tech to diagnose. And Radiologists are trained to read things that have nothing to do with X-ray, such as Nuclear Medicine, MRI and Ultrasound studies.

Well the tech typically does this. I have had a few situations where the Dr. did this or he would come in during the ultrasound and give it a check. But if everything is routine for you I am sure the tech will do it. But they usually tell you everything they can see or anything of interest to you. They are well qualified and schooled in this area. If there is any abnormalities they will typically stop and go and get a Dr. to take a more educated look at the area in question.
blessings to you!

Usually a tech will do the ultrasound unless you have a Doctor who really has a lot of time on his/her hands. The techs are trained to see things and generally do the ultrasounds all day each day so they have the better trained eye. Not too many Doc's have the time to do them since they are examining and etc.
Good luck with your ultrasound and baby. Congrats!

My doctor did my first one at 7 weeks because the baby was moving so much they couldn't find the heartbeat. The second one was done at 24 weeks and a radiology tech did it. The ultrasound machine the tech used was a lot more detailed in comparision to the little one the doctor used..

It all depends but usually the tech does the ultrasound and the doctor reads the results. Good luck.

It really depends. On my first child, my doctor sent me to the hospital to do the ultrasound. On my 2nd and 3rd, I saw a different doctor and he would do the ultrasound in his office. On my 3rd (which I just had 3 months ago) he gave me an ultrasound every week after 20 weeks. It was a high risk pregnancy.

Depends on the clinic. Either way your doctor will be seeing the ultrasound, as they are the ones who have the final say as to whether all is going as it should or not.

A tech and the doctor reviews it. If the doctor has to talk you that usally a bad thing

If the doctor isn't trained or doesn't have a ultrasound machine in his or her clinic, refers you to a sonologist. A sonologist is the one who studied taking sonograms (ultrasound). Just like a radiologist takes x-rays.
