First of all it is not a Lincoln nickel, it is a Jefferson nickel. On the reverse above the dome is a large s for the San Francisco mint. It is one of the war nickels and is 35% silver. in the latest coin word coin values guide, which is a retail guide ( what you would pay) and it most of the time is on the high side, the values are 1.25 in very fine condition to around 4.75 in average uncirculated condition. You would get about 50% of these values. As you see it is not a very rare coin. It had a mintage of 21,640,000

Hi. I am a coin dealer in the Midwest. Taiping above has stated things pretty well...it's a common wartime era Jefferson nickel. Real money in this market...anywhere from around 40-50 cents used, up to about $4 uncirculated. Exceptional, fully struck "Full Steps" uncirculated examples can command a premium price. Most likely, if your piece is in typical average circulated condition, it's worth less than a buck.

Hope this info helped.
