Becoming an adult is an exciting but scary thing. With adulthood comes the uneasy marriage of privilege and responsibility. One way to make the transition easier and to ease the fear is to count on the positive, responsible adults in your life to give you advice. Seek them out when you have doubts and listen to them with an open mind. Often they are speaking from the voice of experience. Enjoy your newly acquired freedoms and powers and take seriously your new personal responsibilities and obligations. Drop your adolescent mannerisms and dress to get the respect you deserve. Recognize that your privileges can take you places you always dreamed of. Draw on the lessons you learn from watching others in your peer group. Embrace and respect your new status. Being an adult is truly a state and habit of mind. Good luck and don't neglect to vote!

You go about it the same as everyone before you. If you have done well, and your parents have done well, then the worst that's going to happen is you will have your first taste of freedom and independence.

The worst that can happen is you'll become drunk with your freedom, and start making mistakes. Remember how you got to where you are, and you'll do okay.

The adult world IS the real world. You obviously understand that, and that gives you a leg up to start with. It is that realization, however, that means your childhood is behind you. I hope you had a good one.

Have faith in humanity, but don't trust it completely. There are those out there who will take advantage of you, on every level. It is a tightrope walk. You must trust someone, and there will be many "someones" who will let you down.

The good news? You know enough to be concerned, which is why your question was posed here. Heads up, and keep on truckin'. You're going to do just fine.

Addendum:
NARC, my boy. I've put three kids through school and on their way. This qualifies me for a "bad" answer"? Probably so. I'm out of step. Next time I need advice I'll ask a twenty-something. Can you help me? Never mind. I can ask my kids. But then, they can only provide perspective from the adult side of life. When you get there, you might like it. Let me know.

In the meantime, you have made the mistake of making this personal. I would again ask that the Answers censors let this run its course, as you've done in the past.

Your serve, NARC. Tell me about what it takes to be a big boy. Don't disappoint your audience. Provide your enlightenment to all who seek the truth of the big bad world. You are here to provide answers, right? By all means, fire away.

Then duck.

*Last answer is a very bad one*

Depending how old you are you may want to go to college but if you are already there keep in mind that there is no magic wand that makes people adults...there is no test to pass and that no one is really an adult we all just start doing adult things like work and taking care of other peple (family)...

Responsibility can seem daunting and it may seem that you are not ready for it...but I believe that the universe throws what we are dready for at us...and if it is too much thats what friends are supposed to be there for.

Good Luck

everyone gets scared, everyone has fears...
you face your fears... you believe in yourself...

being scared actually is... good. it makes you cautious. but do not let it take over you. growing up is a process... and it involves getting over your fears, and having experiences that will prepare you for the real world. :)

The best kept secret is that everyone is scared - your parents, teachers, president, everyone. They use a lot of energy hiding it. You are no different to anyone else. ;0)
