I tolerate X-Mas but still prefer Christmas. Just a personal feeling about it, not deep seated or obsessive about it.

To take off Christ form Christmas is just a way for people to avoid using the word Christ. I find it annoying and prefer Christmas to X-mas. If it is true that "x" comes from "Christ" then I don't mind. But most people would not know that and may still find x-mas offensive.

I use X-mas all the time. I find nothing wrong with it. If I'm like writing out a card to family then I use "Christmas." But if it's with friends, it's "X-mas." My friends do it all the time. My family does it all the time. And if Christmas really is for Christ, then why don't they just call it Christday? Although Merry Christday doesnt hold an appeal for me as Merry Christmas/Merry X-mas does.

I was offended by it, too, until I read something interesting. The "X" in the abbreviation comes from the Greek letter that stood for "christos" or christ in the early days of the church. You still see that "X", along with the fish symbol, on banners, bumper stickers, etc. Since it's just a modern use of an ancient symbol, I now think it's appropriate. Let your colleague know about this.

I personally don't like the X. But Christmas is so far removed from Christianity anyway, I'm not sure it matters. Most people have replaced Christ with Santa.

I never refer to Christmas as Xmas, because it takes Christ out of Christmas and that's the whole point. The Christ Jesus was born on Christmas.

Your co-worker is obviously a believer in Christ. As Christmas is a celebration of the Birth of Christ, we find it offensive to leave his name out of the name of the holiday.

I abbreviate Xmas because Christmas to me has Christian conotations and I am not a Christian. But, I would not care if they did not abbreviate it or not. It is truly up to the individual
