Think of a linear equation as a destination rather than a problem.

There are more advanced things than linear equations out there, so in order to advance you have to follow the path of learning easy things first.

Putting boundaries in life is impractical, and as weird as it may sound like, linear equations were made for understanding life itself.

Do you like to play 3D games like counter strike, doom, and many other? Or do you like watch CG graphic movies... You won't be able to create these games or movies without the concept of linear equations. :) These applications require a lot of equations.

in business it really helps when you are trying to maximize profit, or minimize costs. when you graph two linear equations, you can find the intersect, which usually is the intercept, and that will give you the amount of each item you can make, and under the given constraints maximize your output, for example.

Well, for instance if you're weighing up two plans for paying for electricity.

plan a costs £10 standing charge per month and 2p for each unit

plan b costs £15 standing charge per month and only 1.5p / unit.

Which is the better for you?

Clearly you can see if you don't use much electricity plan A is better, and if you use a lot, plan B is better. But how much do you need to use to make plan B the better option?
