According to the Shinto faith there are both benevolent and malevolent gods. When Tojo and the other war criminals died and were enshrined in Yasukuni shrine, they became malevolent war gods.

Thus, according to Koizumi's beliefs the best way for him to preserve peace is to pray at Yasukuni to appease the war gods. If they were ignored, they would be more likely to get angry and start a war.

no. They seem pretty smart.

You must remember to Japan those people are heros. They are seen as defenders of the country. They have inflicted harm and pain on Asia and truly Pearl Harbor. But look at it from their point of view.

He is not worshipping the war criminals. He is worshipping the spirits at the shrine and it is not his fault that some stupid ***hole buried the war criminals there.
