After all, they would have all died in "the flood," so why does it matter what Cain does, who he does it with, if he has children, etc?

Scientists have speculated that one reason for this geneology was to give you an idea of how the world was populated at the time of the "great flood". By looking at the length of time and exponential reproduction rates of humans, some scientists believe that the population of the world was actually nearly the same as it is today at the time of the flood. Think about it, if it had never rained and a man started building a boat large enough to hold two to seven of every creature on earth (although why he decided to bring two mosquitoes and two cockroaches defies explanation, lol)a world with today's population would find him much more the "crackpot" than anyone has probably ever speculated. Also, the sheer size of the population (remember, according to reproductive rates and the length of time that took place between the creation of man and this event allows the world to populate to nearly the number we have today) would indicate an even more devastating loss of life. Perhaps the geneology was given to allow us to see just how much human life was wiped out during the flood to help us understand the magnitude of God's displeasure with mankind and help us to see the importance of leading a righteous life, knowing that our population has not grown beyond a point when God would decide that our sinful natures have corrupted this earth and wipes us all out again.

Consider the possibility that the flood of Noah's time was not worldwide but only in that area. Cains family had moved possibly to Mongolia and flood did not reach that far.and everyone did not die in the flood, only the descendents of Seth and the "sons of god", except for Noah and his family. Also ask yourself the question, why is Cain's genealogy not listed with Adams? This is definitely not folklore and those who think so are only kidding themselves. There is a great deal to learn about us from these writings and the fact that the world is billions of years old. Science and the Bible are not so far apart in reality. The second part of your question is the descendents of Cain and they are still with us today. Look up Kenites for more information. They attach themselves to Israel throughout the Bible and their impact was destructive as it is today.
You asked a great question and there are many books written on the subject, but you will have to dig to find them. Try a search on the net for kenites to get you started.

Because, as someone else said, Cain was expelled and went wandering. He ended up in a place called Nod. No, the Noah flood surely was not a worldwide phenomenon, or the people of Nod wouldn't have taken him in. The place that Adam and Eve came from was not Heaven, but a garden guarded by an angel called Yahweh. Try Scott Cunningham on this one. He's the expert.

Well, I suppose that since Genisis make mention of other children its quite possible on of the direct discendants of Seth mentioned had relations with a desendant of Cain to beget the next in the geneology resulting in Noah, who, while being the direct patrinal descentant of Seth, he could have also have been a descendant of Cain in his maternal geneology making the family of Cain relevant to Noah, but this is not mentioned and is entire hypothetical as is the entire existance of any events of Genesis

Because, God wanted to show that Cains descendants were associated with one thing, and that was fleshly and violent desires.

They invented such things as make-up, music, alcohol (fleshly desires) and such things as Armor, weapons, etc. (the Art of War).

Also, these thing are considered to be gifts in "other books" given by the Nephilim or the ones spoken of in Genesis 6:1-4. So, in this sense they may have been working closely with fallen angels.

Also, there's no reason to believe or disbelieve that one or more of Noah's son's may have married an offspring of Cain's descendants, thus providing a matrilineal descendant thru the Flood. However, since women were not considered important in the "begats" they were not listed. . . ://

got a better one. when Cain was sent away after murdering his brother, he was told to start over. he wandered to a town, found a wife, and created a family of his own. the question is, if Adam and Eve were the only couple, how did this town of people that Cain found come to be? who was his wife? his sister? dam# i don't know! so you see, the bible has "stories" to explain certain things but the stories don't always flow when it comes to reading between the lines. if you keep reading between the lines of the bible you could create a new book vol II !! that's how many questions you would have!!

because the flood was localized to the then known "world" and if you read the bible adam and eve had many sons and daughters

Mostly for reference to present the whole of the story to all who will listen and learn.

. . .That is an excellent exegetical question. I have no idea, other than to give a sense of completeness to Cain's story.
