I am supposed to be going in for arthroscopic surgery on my knee to fix a torn MCL and some torn cartilage. My knee swelled up and my doctor wants me to go back into the ER to get it checked. The problem is, my boyfriend is the one who has to take me and has to be at work in the morning. We had to also go this weekend, and he got a doctor's note from work, which cleared him for 2 days, but he was off Sunday. Does the note then count for Monday and Tuesday, or Sunday and Monday? And if I go back, can they fire him if he gets another doctor's note excusing him? Please help...

On the time we went in, it was Saturday night going into Sunday morning.

I am a senior recruiter for a prison and I would think that the note would just be for Sunday and Monday. If you do go back to the ER, as long as they give him a note, they cannot fire him because it is against the law, especially if you have children and were put on narcotic painkillers. If DCFS caught wind of you being home by yourself on narcotics with your kids, you might suffer some repercussions for not having someone at home with you. My suggestion is that you go back to the ER for the swelling, and just get a note. If they try to or do fire him, have him go to the labor board in your state. Good luck and feel free to contact me if you need further help.

The problem, as I see it is that your b/f is not the one sick or injured. If he were the law would protect him to some extent.
