I think that would completely depend on your taste and if you were talking about bubble gum Beatles or Rock Beatles. If it were bubble gum I would say Stones, if we were talking after the Beatles realized the error of their ways and started expressing themselves, I would have to still say The Stones just based on history but it would be a tough decision.

In response to the man above to say there would be no Stones without the Beatles is sadly mistaken. The Beatles actually didn't sign their contract with Decca until 1962 (they were not famous at this time) , in fact Beatlemania did not even start until early 1964 when they signed on with Capital Records. The Stones first album came out in 1964 and a few months after its release Time is on my side became popular. And you CANNOT compare a song like that with "I WANNA HOLD YOUR HAND". No, the Beatles were not truly great until later on in their careers.

Not to mention the Stones just recently broke the record for gross tour earnings a record set by The ROLLING STONES in the first place.

If we want to talk who would or wouldn't have been. The Beatles nor the Stones would not have been had there been no Elvis making Rock N Roll as we know it mainstream.

Oh and for anyone to ever say The Beatles had better songs than The Stones shows that they have obviously not listened to anything by the band in the first place.

Beatles! They have way better songs. The Rolling Stones are good for dancing sometimes but the Beatles have heart.

The Beatles literally changed the course of music, reinvented it to a certain degree. AND in one glorious week on Billboard, the Beatles had 7 or the top 10 songs and on the album chart 5 of the top five albums...imagine that...some band haven't even had five CDs ever, let alone 7 hits ever...the Beatles are all in music, much begins with them....
