It is actually common and not just in pregnancy. Acid reflux means that the flap on the stomach that separates it from the esophagus is staying open too long. This unfortunately lets some of the stomach digestive juices escape up through the esophagus. This is the heartburn that you may be experiencing. Being you are pregnant, I would see a doctor and take what ever they recommend to relieve you of this. Over the counter medicine may cause harm to the baby. Good Luck with the special little package that is due soon!

I am 39 weeks now and am experiencing the same thing. Yes it is heartburn and yes it will probably continue for the rest of your pregnancy. (It's the reason why I am awake right now..lol) The only thing that has worked for me is my huge bottle of Mylanta(cherry flavor)that stays on my nightstand. I take a few shots of that throughout the night and it seems to work better than anything else. Good luck w/ the heartburn and with your baby as well!!!

Definately heartburn. I found out that not eating before bed at all helped me not get it at nighttime. Buy lots of Tums and keep water around. Milk helps too if you like it.
Chocolate was a HUGE heartburn cause for me.

I have experienced the same thing. I couldn't sleep and had a hard time eating as well. I went to the emergency room 2 weeks ago because it wasn't what I was use to with my other pregnancies. Well I was told it was acid reflux. The doctor gave me nexium but prescribed prevacid. If they give you a choice nexium worked sooo much better and if I had known I would have asked him to write a prescription for that. But the prevacid works too. The tums did not do it for me. They never did. Talk to your doctor, it is probably acid reflux

It sounds like what happened when the heartburn I had with our daughter flared up. My OB said that it was ok to take a couple of tums to soothe it. They worked wonders for me.

I had heartburn with both my pregnancies. Take Tums Antacids, they work like a charm. I used to get it everyday.

yeah.. the joys of pregnancy.. i have it terribly.. i understand the no sleeping thing too.. my doc told me to take zantac (and i also pop extra strength tums to help out a bit) however this doesn't always work.. you can try mylanta or something like that (suppoused to coat the stomach better and help push down the acid). just be careful to not take too many tums as it can cause a problem with getting too much calcium in your bloodstream... basically, it's just something we have to deal with... soon as the baby is out, it will get better... i feel your pain though.. hope things get better for you... you're definitely not alone in this...

Sounds like heart burn to me, try taking a 6 oz glass of water and adding 1/4 teaspoon of ginger to it, mix well and drink it followed by another 6 oz of water. That should help reduce the burning pain you have.

Speak to your doctor first but that sounds like hearburn. Just don't take any of those pills unless your physician ok's it. Stick with rolaids or mylanta until then. Adjust your diet, no soda and don't eat for a couple of hours before bedtime.
