would I still be known as Mrs. Smith? Or would it be Ms. Smith? I don't even like having his name, but its such a hassle and cost to change it on all the legal documents, licences, credit cards, investments, etc....I'm just wondering if I'd still be addressed as Mrs. Even though technically, I am not married anymore.

It would be Ms. Smith if you needed to keep it. But I would suggest you change it, especially if you don't even like it. Legal documents cost nothing to change with the exception of a driver's license..and that's only around $5-$10. Credit cards will gladly issue you new cards at no charge because they love your business, and investments can be done easily too with a simply copy of your divorce decree. It's a hassle that is short lived and worth doing. It's no more complicated than when you got married.

It's really not that costly or that much of a hassle to change your name. A couple of phone calls and letter writing is all it takes unless you want to keep the name. You shouldn't be called Mrs. Smith. I would link Ms. Smith.

I couldn't wait to change my last name and I even had my maiden name reinstated during the actual divorce because I had already made travel arrangements in my maiden name.

Yes you would be known as Mrs. Smith. You can have your maiden name returned to you after the divorce. It is no hassle to get it changed over, just a few phone calls will do it. You need to talk to your attorney about your name.. Zella

If your name change is part of your divorce decree there is no charge to change it on most documents. If you're getting rid of the man, it's worth the few bucks to get rid of the name too if that's what you really want. Oh and if you keep the name, you will be Ms. Smith.

Ms. Smith is the proper way. You can go back to your maiden name without having to pay anything at all. I did. Contact the court house were you had your divorce and check into it.

From what I remember, traditionally you would still be called Mrs., but you could sign everything as you wanted, miss, ms, or just use your first name.
