If you saw my question a while ago, i said my computer didnt work. I ended up reinstalling windows. But I couldn't find the installation disk for my computer, so I used the one for my parents computer, which is also a laptop. Unfortinately, I can't change the resolution so I can make everything smaller, unless I make the colors horrible quality. Also, the troubleshooting guide doesn't work.

Also, I'm using wireless, but it wont detect the wireless card, so I can't install the card. It should be able to detect it because the computer it came from has a card slot, too. What's wrong?

I don't want to pay for a new one, so please help. I'm only 12, and my parents say I would have to pay for the whole thing, so you don't know how much I would appreciate any help you can give.

Alright.. first all labtops are NOT the same.
You must find your wireless card manufacturer on the internet (i.e, Linsys), go to their site and download the latest driver to get your wireless card to work correctly. A driver is software that makes a particular hardware function correctly. Normally they are label as this (.dll) Go to the internetfrom your parent's computer and download drivers and save it to disc and when you put the disc in your labtop, you will

Right click on My Computer
Click on Properties
click on the Hardware tab
Click on Device Manager
Click on the plus sign by Network adapters (this expands it)
You may have a question mark by this area.
Right click on the Network adapter listed (normally your wireless brand name)
Click on Update Driver
(this will bring up an Hardward Update Wizard box)
you should get prompted to insert your hardware installation CD, put in the CD with the update driver in there now.
Makre sure "Install the softwared automatically (Recommended) is selected
click Next and it should start installing the driver for your wireless card.

Any time you are having a hardware problem it may be a driver. All you have to do is look up the manufactural of that particular hardware (Harddrives, video cards, network cards, soundcards) and go to the manufacturer website. They are pretty user friendly and when you get to those website, in the search bar inside that website type the word DRIVER and you should see a page with questions as to what is your Operating System (Windows XP, Windows 2000, Mac, etc) and then it will take you to the appropriate driver to download. And it SHOULDN'T cost anything.

You can also go to driver.com to get drivers also. Good luck.

(Also do the same thing for your video card, update the driver and you should be able to adjust the resolution without losing any color quailty).

one last note: Look for a CD that my say (Reinstall Windows Drivers). Normally on this cd are all the drivers you need for your video and sound for your labtop and perhaps get lucky enough to have your wireless card driver on it also. Whenever you do a wipe out and a reinstallation of a system, you need 2 Cds. One for the OS and one for the drivers.

For the resolution, right click on the desktop, select Properties, now go to Settings. There you will see the resolution configuration.

About the wireless card, I've tried several different ethernet cards, not wireless cards, but I had the hardest time trying to get my laptop connected to the Internet with them, in fact was never able to get the laptops online. You may want to find a wireless forum or something where you can get more detailed information on the problem you're having, not very familiar with wireless yet. But if I had to just guess, make sure the software driver is installed, etc. on the new OS install and/or make sure everything like that is checked.

you need to download the right driver for the Video card for your resolution. use flash drive or burn the driver on a CD so that you dont have to connect them on wireless. transfer using CD
