Its because the UN is basically another form of America's influence. 25% of the UN's fuding comes from America. It is a figurehead meant t allow countries America is unfriendly with to participate in world politics while also being forced to do whatever America wants it to.

The UN has suffered constant embarrasments. The oil-for food scandal, the poor reaction to Darfur, Sudan and the poor reaction to many human rights issues in China and North Korea.
Unfortunately the UN has no armed forces of its own so it can't really make changes. Guess who handles that job?
THE USA.

The UN's failures get more media attention that it's successes. It's not a perfect organization to be sure, but no organization is.
Just off the top off my head I can think of successful UN missions in Cyprus, Golan Heights, Sinai, Cambodia, Angola, Guatemala.

There are people out there everyday doing demining, humanitarian work, truce supervision on behalf of the UN who will never make it on CNN. It's easy for you to sit in front of your computer and be smug about the UN's failures-so sorry it's not a perfect world.

You are completely correct. THe UN has not ever met the goals it was created for and consistently fails in fully resolving problems. It is a big drain and source of irritation. It really is too bad though, it would be nice to have an international body that worked to help world differences. Actually NATO does a much better job, but it is not all the world.

actually according to history its America that fails and the UN suceeds. when we went to vietnam, the UN said no dont go. we got our butts kicked. when we first went to Iraq the UN said yeah ok go ahead. we came out ahead. theres tons of examples. the UN might not always suceed, but UN missions go better then US missions. what happened to all of our anti-terrorism support? spain ducked out, france isnt worth crap, england dropped out. gee... weve been there for like 5 years now and we still aint done crap. sure we removed saddam, but hes still on trial. WHY IS HE ON TRIAL? because the soldiers who found him were too stupid to kill the guy.
