I *LOVE* UC Berkeley. You will find no bigger cheerleader-jingoist for Cal on Y!A than me (read my Best Answers for proof).

I double-majored in molecular cell biology and Southeast Asian studies. It was wonderful to be surrounded by so many brilliant minds. I grew up in a small town where few people go to college, so it was an eye-opener to be thrown into a social melange of rich, poor, racially diverse, liberal, conservative, thinkers and doers. I made great friends. I studied under Nobel laureates and leaders in their fields. I was part of a few protests and a few counter-protests. I ate greasy pizza and drank pitchers of beer. I dated cute guys who were into literature and hung out in computer labs with gamer geeks. I made out at the top of the Campanile at sunset (it was great!). I loved every minute of college (well, except for final exams).

The people in Berkeley are a bit eccentric, and that's just wonderful. They're also articulate and brilliant. Someone from my class is gonna cure cancer someday, I just know it. And if you're there, you will see for yourself, the potential and the ability of these students. It's awe-inspiring. And yet, they're down-to-earth. People aren't too harried, but they don't coast on a sense of self-entitlement. That's what Cal is all about: you work hard for your keep.

And yes, I have seen William Hung around campus, but that was after I graduated.

Cal is a great university, but it all really depends on what one is pursuing there. It gets high marks in business (I think it's the only UC that has a school specifically for business for the undergraduate level) and engineering. In fact, it has a lot of strengths in a diverse range of fields, which, I suppose, is one of the reasons why it is so well-known.

My brother is actually leaving on Friday to go to Berkeley. I've got two friends that go there and all of them love it. You can create your own major and, from what I've heard, the classes aren't that bad. Doesn't hurt that their football team is pretty good too. :)

rather liberal, incredibly diverse, pretty darned good staff and courses. in all, a pretty good school if you're a vegetarian or a libertarian or exploring just about anything you want.

had an option to go there, but my parents wanted me to go to brown, so i can't give you first hand experience. only information from a couple friends who attended.

It is a very nice campus and good education. Don't tell my family that though, they bleed Stanford Cardinal red.

the classes are very crowded, around 600-700s people per class (esp. for bio and chem). but that school is ok, except it is very competitive... and beautiful building too!
