No. Most assuredly not. But I can't tell you the number of times I've asked what might be available in a restaurant and the response has been, "Well, you could get a salad." I do like salads, but rabbit food isn't usually what I want.
I am a long time vegetarian, and don't eat all that well (I saw another say you had to cheat by eating other things to get what your body needs). You can combine foods to get complete protein - beans and rice are a good combo. Some do eat dairy products (like me), while others do not - lots of variations. Many take vitamin supplements, too.
The thing most people seem to assume about vegetarians is they like to eat healthy. But if you give me an apple for dessert when my friend gets a piece of cake (This happened on an airline flight), I'm gonna be bummed. And pizza? People wonder how you're going to eat that, and I say, um, cheese? Spaghetti? Yes, with marinara sauce, please.
And I know this is sad, but I was VERY EXCITED when I visited England some years back and could order right off the Burger King menu - a bean burger! Truly.
P.S. Some people do choose to eat chicken and fish and say they are vegetarians. I think it would be more accurate to say they are selective vegetarians.

Vegetarians eat things that are not meat. They still consume dairy, honey, eggs, and other things that come from animals but are not meat. They also eat soy and vegetable combinations which are meant to emulate meat such as veggie burgers, fake bacon etc.
Vegans will not eat anything that comes from an animal, no honey or dairy. So mainly just vegetables and fruits and juices etc there are vegan imitation foods, but they can be a little harder to find.
"They eat fish, and chicken"
No they do not that is still meat from an animal. A flexarian or some such is someone who bends the rules and will eat meat or fish. But most vegetarians would never eat fish or chicken. The idea is not to kill any animals for your meal, a good portion of vegetarians due it for moral reasons because they don't want to eat what htey would consider a dead carcasus so any animal that is killed to be consumed they will not eat.

Just because the word vegetable is in vegetarians doesn't mean they only eat vegetable and drink water. They eat fish, and chicken. The only thing they don't eat is red meat. Which is bad for you anyway so actually they are helping themselves and eating healthy.

There are two types of vegetarians in this world. Those who eat correctly and those who don't. Of those who don't eat correctly, they cannot survive on that diet without cheating and eating some form of meat/eggs/milk etc. As in you will die if you try to eat that way. Those that do eat correctly are far more knowledgeable and dedicated to vegetarianism and are likely to eat only vegetables and drink only water.

No vegetarians will eat, vegetable, fruit, dairy and grains. Some vegetarians will eat eggs, although I'm not certain they are true vegetarians.

Vegetarians can devour something that does no longer comprise meat or gelatin. some vegetarians will also keep away from issues with eggs, dairy, or both. If the pizza does no longer have meat, then definite they could devour it. If the spaghetti sauce has no meat (consisting of the inventory) in it, then definite they could devour that too. i'm vegan (no animal products) and that i devour both. there's a pizza position close to me that makes remarkable vegan pizza. abode-made vegan cheese, some veggie toppings, and basil pesto sauce. Admittedly, the pizza is eco-friendly, inspite of the undeniable fact that it truly is scrumptious. so long because the noodles and sauce are vegan (no egg in noodles, no meat/cheese in sauce), then definite I devour spaghetti besides.

For simplicity, the difference between vegetarians and vegans is that while vegetarians do not eat meat, fish, or poultry, vegans neither eat nor use the products of any animal.

You're confusing vegetarians with vegans. Of course, both eat grains and fruits too...The only difference being that vegans not only don't eat animals, but anything that comes from them as well.

No :-) A vegetarian doesn't eat meat, they do usually eat eggs, cheese, etc. If someone avoids all animal products, they are a vegan.
