Coming home on Christmas eve after the candlelighting service and sitting around the Christmas tree watching the lights. (I think I was around 6 or 7 ) Mom was out in the kitchen putting the ingredients together for the stuffing for the next day and the house was full of glorious smells such as the onions, celery and sage for the stuffing. The pumpkin and fruit pies for dessert. The pine scent from the Christmas tree. This all mingled with the excitement of watching and waiting for Santa Claus has stuck in my mind all of these years as being one of the best and sweetest memories of my childhood Christmas's

My sweetest childhood memory of Christmas is the days up to Christmas, waiting, anticipation, and watching Christmas shows, sitting next to the Christmas tree, smelling the Christmas tree(very lovely aroma) and enjoying the days off from school and waiting for Christmas day and then on Christmas day opening the presents and playing with them.

My sweetest Christmas memory is my very first Christmas that
I can remember. I was about 4 or 5 years old. We were spending Christmas with my grandparents in Iowa. It was snowing really bad and I was scared that Santa wouldn't make
it to grandma's house. I was assured that he would arrive and
I went to sleep. I awoke in the wee hours of the morning and saw
a man in a dim light setting up a train set for my younger brother.
A male voice told me to go to sleep and called me by my name.
I snapped those eyes shut. The next time I opened my eyes it
was Christmas and there sitting under the tree was the prettiest
doll I had ever seen waiting for me. That doll was almost as big as me. Santa had made it after all.

It was Christmas of 1967. We had moved from California to Peru. Our belongings were still in transit. We made our own Christmas decorations. But it was looking like a bare Christmas because we had everything in shipping. I did not believe in Santa anymore, not sure if I did. Anyway, come Christmas, we had stocking full of "stuff" mom and dad had gone to the local stores and bought us small gifts to have at Christmas. Made a world of difference to us in such a far away place.

When I was in 2nd grade I got a pony for Christmas! I was the happiest little girl on the face of the earth that day. One of the most happy memories of my childhood.

I remember sleeping on this big horrible ugly yellow pillow downstairs so I would see Santa Claus... The thing was as big as I was. I was very young, and I remember seeing someone messing with the stockings. I know it was my mother but I was half asleep and so young, I think I must have thought it was Santa Claus.

What SHOULD have been a sweet memory but wasn't, was the year my parents separated, my brother and I lived with our mother and she was working as a waitress, and the Angel tree type people sent a Santa Claus with presents for us, and I was so mad because I didn't want to be thought of as poor. I got scolded for being rude, but I was just so unhappy that they would pass of some guy in a bad Santa suit as Santa, and I was 11 and didn't even believe anymore anyway, and we had to have presents from STRANGERS. Looking back... I still didn't want to be thought of as poor... we had everything we needed so I didn't see why we had to be the needy children.

We were always broke, so the year that I really wanted a dollhouse for my Sunshine family (it was the '70's) and Barbie to live in is a pretty sweet memory. My mom and Grams secretly gathered strong cardboard boxes and decorated them as rooms for my doll family and my sister got a house as well. Mom and Grams cut out windows, painted the walls, put down real carpeting, hand made furniture and sewed blankets, curtains and pillows, etc...
