It is an exageration to say you will need to rebuild every 6 months -- I have known them to go years with just maintenance.

Is it going to be a daily rider? You should definitely learn about 2-stroke maintenance. It is a cool bike, but also not very user-friendly. Very difficult torque curve -- all the power is inside of the redline so you're constantly switching gears.

Have you thought about an RZ350? ("Z" as in "Zebra")

PS - remember that the "RD" is an abbrev for "Rapid Death" --- relating to the fate of many RD riders.

Fantastic choice. Just listen for any knocking sounds, at idle, and make sure it has compression. ( When you go to kick it over, there should be a considerable amount of force required). They're pretty old, now, so look for any signs of a bent frame ( it'll go around a left hander, better than a right hander, etc), and just look for general wear. It won't need to be rebuilt every six months, I promise, unless you plan on racing it. If you buy it, make sure you keep the 2 stroke oil up to it, via the oil bottle, under the right hand side cover. I used to race one, way back when, so get in touch, if you have any questions.

Good bike. Go ahead. Are you buying a new one or a second hand? If it is second hand please take a mechanic with you, for checking the internal rattling and engine condition. All the best
