Because we as people dont look at it as help we look at it as "Someone trying to sell us Something."
I mean how many of us would hang up the phone if when we answered someone said "May I speak to the lady of the house?"
We just assume that it is a telemarketer or someone trying to sell something so we hang up. It couldve been the neighbor down the street telling you something very important.
You have to come up with a different and unique approach only then will people listen and become interested.

Dear Link the World:
I think it's great that you're trying to help customers protect their identities. I'm one of those 80% who do say no to paying for that service. After all is said and done, I'll be paying $120 per year for something that I do myself regularly and for free. Since I am allowed 3 free credit reports each year, 1 from each of the credit bureaus, I check on our credit every 4 months. Our credit scores are very high and we've been ok. It's nothing personal, it's just that my resources are limited and I have to use them wisely. I think that's where a lot of people are. Best of Luck!

Hey, people are bombarded everywhere they look with sales pitches. Signs on the road, newspapers you read, TV you watch, and businesses that already have your business. It's WAAAY too much! If I want something, I'll research it on the net and then and only then will I make a decision to buy or not.
I don't like it when people who alread have my business ASSUME that I want more of what they offer. And I don't like getting the Bum's Rush: buy it now!, offer good only today!, etc. When the phone co. calls and says I can have a certian service for only 55 cents a day, I ask them to send me the info in the mail, as they frequently don't honor the conditions they promise in their phone pitch. And funny thing--they never do send the info in the mail! Why's that? Because they have no intention of giving you the deal they promised you. I just don't buy anything over the phone liike that, because I'm doubtful that they'll honor their part of the bargain. And what protectons do I have, over the phone like that??? Nothing's in writing, if there's a problem, it's your word against theirs. You have no protections with phone sales. So sorry you are the one to find this out. I'd find a job that was more rewarding. People aren't stupid and don't fall for phone sales pitches.

You are telling the customers about something that can help them for the cost of $9.95 a month?
Problem 1) YOU (ie an employee of the company) are telling them.
Problem 2) It costs money. (and with the price of gas nowadays, who can blame them!)
Problem 3) You still haven't convinced me that I need it. Maybe you should work on your pitch. Why should I have a credit report every month for $9.95 when I can simply check on the balances of my credit cards for free? Your pitch lacks logic and necessity.

Because to many consumers, it sounds like a gimmick, a telemarketing pitch and most don't want to be bothered by anything other than what they are calling for.

Could be they have the service someplace else or they don't believe identity theft will happen to them.
