There will always be a place for small business but there will be one difference . The chances of starting a small business and building it into a conglomerate is probably a long shot at best due to the massive amounts of capital it takes to expand . Small local businesses will thrive and make their owners a good solid living if the product is quality , great service , and good customer rapport . Trying to compete against the giants is suicidal cause they will sell at retail less than what you buy it for to put you out . On the bright side is all big companies have a soft underbelly and if you find it you can carve out a nice niche market for yourself .

Yes, there is.

Find other small businesses that do what you do and form a Guild. This will then allow you to act as a larger form of yourself to service/reach anywhere.

Example: I run a small cleaning services in Wisconsin, so my partners ( he's in Florida) (she's in Indiana) and I created an Association-(Guild) for others in our industry. We meet online, go after opportunities (sales) as a group and can now take on work anywhere in the world that we have members. This has opened doors for us that previously were closed to small business owners. By banding together, we can offer the same quality of service that the extremely large corporations can but we also are able to offer the personal touch that only a small owner operated business can offer. For the customers it's win/win.

You can see our stuff at the links below.

Forget about globalization. Just look at nature. There are elephants and ants in the woods, small fish and big fish in the ocean. They all live side by side in this world.

The free market encourages competition just as in nature. I believe in the U.S.A there are 3 million companies big, medium and small too.

An ant has to compete with otherr ants and an elephant has to compete with othe elephants. Find out a suitable small business that would suit your capital.

Take a stroll around town. Look at the pastry shops, the barber shops, the mechanic shops, the laundry shops, the electronic service centers, the traders, the marketing companies, the mobile stores, the day care centers well they are all small and profitable too.

You got to study your business plans carefully. Find out if it belongs to the large/medium/ small scale sector. Find some small business that you can do.
