PASSIONS soap opera how did Alester Crane die?

If you mean the first one that died at his home. He had a heart attack and drowned in his pool.
If you mean the character on the TV show. He was on a train with Beth and Marty and a missile blew then up over a ravine and no bodies where recovered. But my question is " did he really die" No body on soaps means he could come back to life.
