It's nothing personal, but I absolutely hate rap. Maybe it's because I'm french, and growing up with french parents, I listen to different things, but rap isnt one of them. Thing is, I hate the HIP HOP thing in general. I'm more rock, pop, and even some country(I've started loving country music a few years ago, when I heard Diamond Rio's "One more day", now thats a beautiful song). RAP? no, should be banned, lol.

I think it's really annoying when every other word is bleeped out. But I like rap music if it has a good message, has a really catchy chorus, or if the rapper is actually trying to convey some emotion other than hating and killing people or talking about how much money he/she has. but you probably wouldn't ever find me buying an actual rap album.

i think it totally depends on what you're listening to. If you for say, listen to some more political, socially concious rap song, i think you will find them much more fufilling. I agree, if you pick certain artists, and certain songs, you will not be displeased.
i would consider hearing some
Talib Kweli (get by, etc.)
Kanye west (many many songs)
Public Enemy
Common (stay, the corner, go etc)
Jurassic 5 ( thin line, high fidelity, etc.)
Grand Master Flash (The message and others)
Slick Rick (children's story)

many others, and
select songs like
Twista - hope
Big Punisher - It's so Hard
Damian Marley ft. Nas - The Road To Zion
and tons more
overall, i think the rap that i listen to personally is much better than
booty booty booty rocking everywhere
hope this helps straighten some things out

Yes, I hate rap music also. But do you know why it's so detestable to intelligent people?

Rap music repeats or blends short rhythms and is harmonically very limited. In other words, it's crude. For example, repeat the following two lines:

Yapa daapa DApa daapa dapa dapa DApa
Yapa daapa DApa daapa dapa dapa DApa

Now repeat this, over and over again:

Ah boom-boom BOOM
Ah boom-boom BOOM
Ah boom-boom BOOM
Ah boom-boom BOOM

Now, put them together, the Yapa daapas and the boom booms. That's the rap sound. Notice how quickly you get tired of hearing it?

The yapa daapa rhythm above is the lyrical rhythm: it's the pattern the words fit to. There are other patterns, too. Repeat this:

Daaaa da DA da, da da DAAAA
Daaaa da DA da, da da DAAAA

If you want to create a rap song, all you have to do is string together vulgar words describing some sort of violent or illegal activity in time with the lyrical rhythm. There you go, you rap "artist" you.

When rap gets on your nerves, relief can come from listening to something written by musicians with at least 10000 times more talent than it takes to write rap. For example, soothe yourself with the theme to Morrowind...
...or Star Trek Deep Space 9...
...or Enya's "Wild Child"...
...or David Henry's "Dancing Lion Inn" theme from Betrayal in Antara...
...or Loreena McKinnet's "The Mummer's Dance"...
...or Lennon & McCartney's "In My Life"...
...or the background ambient music from Homeworld Mission 1: Kharak System...
...or Purple Motion's "A Touch of Spring."

I listen to the most vile, heavy music there is, and love it. But there is nothing worse than rap music. Country comes close but rap gets the sh*t cigar. Rap, R+B, Pop, and those F****** boy bands all need to be shot. I use to try and respect what other people listen to, but no more, this music has got to go, it died a long time ago, but thanks to mtv and dumb young white kids its still here. SAD!

Some rap is good and some is crappy, the good rap involves deep meaningfull lyrics such as some rock songs can contain, but unfortunetely a lot of rap today consists of nothing but sex, drugs and more boring ****, for example, "I can" by Nas is a great song because its inspiring to children and adults alike. So I'm neutral, it depends on the artist and song.

i do not hate rap music but its not my cup of "teh tarik" (malaysian tea mix with milk, taste great, u guys should try it)
anyway, it depends how rap evvovles, like what limp bizkit, linkin park, rage against the machine and the grandaddy antrax did to rap by mixing it with rock is cool.
kayne west doing it old school is ok. eminem doin it white boy style is ok too but all that gangsta rap about guns, drugs and treating women like slaves, those suck.
