Be sure you know the anti-theft code for your radio if it has one, disconnecting the battery will cause it to go into theft mode and lock itself. Just remove the cables from the posts is all you need to do. But unless you have a bad electrical system, bad battery, or are planning on an extremely long vacation there is no need to disconnect it.

well a honest question needs a honest answer, well first of how long you going to be gone one week or two don't bother, longer than that you should, you don't need to disconnect both just one the either one will work but it best to do the negative tho but will work either way but if you never done out before and some cars don't know what kind you have if you have a V-12 BMW yes get a pro cause its under the rear seat right side and is a big ordeal, and they all are right handed threads, means turn right to tighten and left to UN screw OK, a battery is connections are week and if a side post and you turn it the wrong way you will need a new battery ,cause you will pull the cap out of the battery ,its soft lead and also when you do this where gloves and don't have any open flame (smoking) cause a battery is Hydrogen and will explode it you get flame close enough to it OK, safety first, well i don't know the vehicle your talking about and some u need a pro, if a dodge intrepid its behind the right front wheel and will need experience , some of the answer's here are referring to old car where they used to be right under the hood and real easy to do , to days cars are much different and if in doubt play it safe and call auto club and or some thing like that if over 15 days OK other wise don't worry you can always jump start it when you get back, providing this is a valid question

Its so simple a girl (I mean Neanderthal) can do it, just need to disconnect the red (+) cable, all that's needed is the right size wrench. Have one of your kids do it.

Only disconnect the negative. You don't need to disconnect both poles.

by the sound of it you have know idea what you doing i this case get someone else to do it for you , it will only take 5minutes but if you did it you might give your self a nasty shock, remember car batteries are only 12/14 volts but they have about 8amps that's about 5 more than a power point and no safety switch , so please get someone else to do it !!!!!!

just take a small wrench that fits the bolt on the cable ,,and loosen it,,also move it to the side so that it don't try to touch back to it ,,other than that ,,its easy,,you may have to twist it a little to get it off but you can do it,,good luck.

Please don't pay someone to disconnect your battery. lol It should have specific instructions in your owners manual, but usually all it takes is losening a bolt. All you need a set of wrenches or a socket set.
