No it's not a gender thing and your husband is not being "selfish". Baby crying, as someone mentioned, is designed to be loud so it can get peoples attention and ensure basically the baby's needs are met so that it will stop crying. The problem is that when you're low on sleep (as is the case with most newborn babies), it's hard to find a balance and it's frustrating when you've felt you've done everything you can do but your baby is still fussing. In the case of my daughter, I was taking care of her on the last day at the hospital after she was born and did everything I knew how to do to comfort her, but she didn't calm down until a nurse came in and did a really tight swaddle on her. After that I started trying to learn how to do a good blanket swaddle. I've seen mothers old and new totally lose it with their crying babies/children, though screaming at them to "shut the f*** up" so lets just put that gender BS to bed now :D

Yea you will. As a mohter to a 9 month old my slef, i was SOOOO worried that i wouldnt hear kasey cry! so like the first few nights he was home, i slept on the floor in his room, silly i know. But let me tell you. There is something, that i think they call a parents sense lol. Its wonderful for some odd reason, when u have a new baby in your home, you hear everything when you are sleeping or awake. Like something is telling your body that u have to hear everything, and well you do. Your body will be able to tell itself, that u have to listen for the crys of your baby, and u will hear every little cry, whine, and movement, Sounds awkward i know, but it happens. If you HONESTLY dont trust the fact that u will hear your daughter cry, get a baby monitor and turn it up to a comfortable noise, so its not to noisy to hear and ant crawl or something, and you will surly here her then cus those things are loud and annoying lol. But you will be okay, promise :-)

OH yes! she wont stop until you do. Okay with that being the truth and all....here is sonething else, after you become a mother, for some reason you dont sleep as heavily instead you hear every last creak in the house and get woken by the slightest sound, i once got woken by the sound of the newspaper being thrown by the paper boy. Dont worry you will hear her, but if you are still worried, buy a baby monitor or put her crib in your room for the first couple of months until you get used to it.

I was worried about the same thing when my daughter was born. I too am a single parent, but have no fear, you will hear your child's cries in the night. If you are to worried you can put your baby in a bassinet in your room or just buy a baby monitor at a consignment shop, but as a mother myself there is just something inside of me that instantly becomes alert whenever my daughtet cries. Don't worry mothers instinct takes over almost as soon as the baby arrives.

I worried about EVERYTHING when I was pregnant. I didnt really believe too much in " mothers intuition" but after I had my daughter I became a believer!!!!
every little noise , whimper , cry .. I was up and awake. Right after she was born I didnt sleep for 4 days straight I was so nervous that I would miss something or I would close my eyes and she would disappear or something !!!
The worry will lessen after a time.. but it never goes away.
Just relax and enjoy your new baby, things will be just fine :)

For the first few week you will know when your baby moves at all , each baby has its own cry so even in a group of babys you will be able to tell ;-)
If your like my wife and can sleep through a truck crash then you will want a good man to help wake you up.

The maternal instinct is always there. And to begin with you will be such a worry wart that you will check when you baby doesn't cry. The joys of parenting. Once you have calmed from this stage you will be able to rest and wake at times he/she needs you. I am sure you won't have any worries when the calling cry comes.

I worried about that too, but amazingly enough it seemed like any little shift could wake me once the baby was born. I'm usually a very heavy sleeper. If the baby's going to be in a different room, feel free to get a baby monitor. If nothing else, it'll be a big help later.

Yes you will. Don't worry about that and if you want to feel more secure buy yourself a good baby monitor and put it right next to your bed. You can hear clearly even when she's breathing. It's one of the most awesome sounds you will hear. They sound so peaceful and you can't compare that to anything. Good Luck and don't worry too much you'll be a great Mom. Congratulations

Once you have that baby, the good old maternal instincts will kick in and the second he/she cries you'll be leaking all over the place and wake up right away. You'll do great---DON'T WORRY! It all comes naturally. I kept the bassinet in my bedroom for the first month or so and after that I kept a baby monitor next to the bed. It's natural to worry, but don't let it get in the way of enjoying your little bundle of joy. Good Luck and God Bless. (Oh......Congratulations!)
